This is one of our favorite new arrivals...so far! It starts with a sweet cocoa and floral aroma. The cup brings out complex fruit flavors, sweet herbal notes, lemon acidity and a marzipan body along with a sweet and savory finish. Overall, it's a very unique cup with tons of depth and dynamics.
And not to mention the Gedeb is the coffee we used to win America's Best Cold Brew at CoffeeFest Anaheim in 2016 AND the coffee our barista, Jessica Rodriguez, used to secure a place in the US Brewers Cup Competition this year!
Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Gedeb GrainPro coffee is sourced from family-owned farms organized around the Kokanna coffee mill located in Gedeb District, Gedeo Zone, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region, Ethiopia. The Kokanna mill is located in a beautiful valley in the town of Kakanna, approximately 60 kilometers from the town of Yirgacheffe. Small coffee farmers deliver ripe cherries to the Kokanna mill where the cherries are sorted and pulped. After pulping, the beans are fermented for 36 to 48 hours and then washed.
The wet beans in parchment are placed on raised drying beds in thin layers and turned every 2 to 3 hours during the first few days of the drying process. Depending on weather, the beans are dried for 10 to 12 days until the moisture in the coffee beans is reduced to 11.5 percent. Then the beans are transported to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to be milled and bagged prior to export.
