What is a Coffee Klatch?

Klatch Coffee, where coffee is the conversation. Yup, that’s us! Ever wonder what Klatch even is? Well we’re here to give you a little rundown!

Merriam Webster defines a coffee klatch as an informal social gatherings for coffee and conversation. The gatherings usually consist of a group of friends at someone’s house. The term “coffee klatch” comes from the German word, “kaffeeklatsch,” which translates to coffee (kaffee) + gossip (klatsch). The word “klatch” used to be “klatsch” but has since turned into “klatch” or even “clatch”

Coffee klatches were much more common in the 1950s. People would get together with their friends and neighbors and just catch up on everyone’s lives over a cup of coffee.

Coffee klatches still exist today however the term is almost extinct. We’re keeping it alive though with our specialty coffee beans and our passion for coffee and conversation! Klatch coffees are born as a result of nurturing relationships with the farmers who grow the beans. It is our belief that the art of Klatch begins right where the seeds are planted.

When starting their first coffeeshop, founders Mike and Cindy Perry brainstormed different name ideas. Cindy thought of 'coffee klatch' as it relates to her Dutch heritage. She has fond memories of watching her grandmother participate in a coffee klatch with friends.
