The Specialty Coffee Event of the Year

The 23rd SCAA Symposium and Exposition taking place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas since Wednesday, April 26th until Monday, May 1st 2011.

The SCAA Symposium kick starts a packed full six day event. The Symposium sets the tone by focusing on the biggest issues facing specialty coffee, engaging participants in a dialogue about potential solutions, and helping individuals design a response for their own organizations in light of some new and pressing challenges.

Klatch Coffee will be present at the SCAA convention by Heather Perry, Barista Champion and her father, Mike Perry, Roastmaster and Coffee Green Buyer. Heather will be brewing coffee on a V60 on Thursday, April 28th and emceeing Thursdays Night Throwdown (TNT) with Chris Baca at the welcome reception.

Following the Symposium the SCAA Exposition begins. The Event is SCAA community’s annual gathering. It is the opportunity to come together as a whole and celebrate everyone's accomplishments, challenge our abilities, and work towards solutions for the future in the specialty coffee industry.

On Friday, April 29th Ms. Perry will be teaching the "Grind, Does, Tamp, Extract 201" class from 9am to 12pm, in addition to giving the BGA Level 2 Exam and speaking at "All About SCAA Barista Competitions" lecture. While, Mike will be a presenter at NUCOFFEE reception where 50 coffee farmers from all producing regions in Brazil and roasters will be sharing information and connecting the coffee community.

Saturday, April 30th Heather will be speaking at "Ask the Expert" presentation and giving the BGA Level 2 Exam. Sunday, May 1st, Heather will be teaching "Milk and Latte Art" class. Mike will be judging "Best New Product" and building relationships with Direct Trade producer new and old, and cupping coffee through the entire event. Also, Felipe Croce who has been working with Klatch and the son of the producers where we purchase Brazil Bob-O-Link will be representing Klatch at the US Tasting Cup Champion Competition.

In addition, the National USBC Competition will take place in conjunction with the 23rd annual SCAA Symposium and Exposition, April 27th to May 1st. You can watch the completion live at www.usbaristachampionship.org. You can also see Heather during her downtime emceeing the USBC.
