San Francisco Natural Bourbon is one of the CO-OPS visited by Mike earlier this year, during his trip to Ethiopia. It starts with chocolate and fruit on the nose that become defined as dark cherry and pomegranate flavor combined with a blackberry sweetness all wrapped in a molasses body. This is what you would expect from a great natural processed coffee.
The San Francisco Farm, one of the most significant estates of the JASAL group, is home not only to a coffee producing region, but also to a natural forest reserve which was donated to the National Forest Association of El Salvador with the purpose to preserve a beautiful habitat to many exotic plant and animal species. At the highest part of this reserve lies a one of a kind lagoon home to thousands of frogs that depending on the time of the year, you can see them jumping all at once in this lagoon.
Located Juayua, Canton Buenos Aires, its rich volcanic soils make Santa Francisco an ideal place for coffee cultivation. Santa francisco coffee is 100% shade grown and therefore has an ideal micro climate for coffee cultivation. Shade trees also serve as home to many native bird species and other exotic animals.
At Santa francisco we conduct harvesting activities using selective hand picking which consists of only harvesting fully ripe cherries. The social and environmental activities play an important role on the daily activities of the farm and the JASAL group always looks to supply its surrounding communities with health services and infrastructure for educational activities.
