Floral, citrus, honey and fruit on the nose [ fragrance and aroma ] that carries all into the palate with sweet lemon orange citrus acidity, floral honeysuckle, fruit notes of cherry and slight berry, tropical flavors and stone fruit [ peach ], with a very sweet and pleasing aftertaste.

The traditional, award winning Esmeralda Special comes from an area in Panama known as Jaramillo. At Klatch Coffee we have the Mario Carnival, harvested during peak month of February from the world famous coffee estate, Hacienda La Esmeralda. This estate is the holder of three online coffee auction records, once when it sold for $21 dollars a pound on June 29th, 2004, again on May 30, 2006 when it sold for $50.25 a pound and in May 2007 when it sold for $130 a pound.

Mike visits the Peterson Family every year and this year was no different. This past March Mike cupped an assortment of coffees at Hacienda La Esmeralda but nothing compared to the sophistication of the Mario. Mike's on site cupping notes described this coffee as - floral [ jasmine ] and bergamot, elegant, balanced, classic, rich, full, complex, dark berries, juicy body, savory, well integrated acidity backed with full sweetness. Likewise, Klatch's Esmeralda Mario Pascua crop from 2008 received a 94 points from Ken Davids from Coffee Review.

Coffee was a gift to a barista friend. The following comments are quoted from him: It is absolutley amazing. The acidity is spot on and the flavor profile on the bag nails it. The honey sweetness gives this cup an extraordinary feel down the center of your tongue while all the fruit notes chime in from sides. The fruit and honey remain long after you sip it only to be accompanied by milk chocolate. Talk about complex - and it is all balanced perfectly. Notice I'm drinking it out of my favorite cup, which I made in college;) I brewed it through my little mellita pour over which ALWAYS delivers for me.
