Klatch Coffee dominated The Ultimate Barista Challenge USA at the Western Foodservice and Hospitality Expo, sweeping all three challenges. The expo took place August 14th to the 16th, 2010, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Heather Perry, Klatch Coffee's Director of Training and Consulting, defended her titles as "The Ultimate Barista" in both the “Best of Brew” and the “Latte Art Challenge”. The winner of the “Espresso Frappe Challenge” was Klatch Coffee’s own barista Jana Bain from the San Dimas Klatch, trained and coached by “The Ultimate Barista” Heather Perry. Talk about student beats teacher. Jana impressed the judges with her "Blackberry Bliss," a refreshing blackberry cheese cake frappe, which featured award-winning Klatch Belle Espresso.
After watching Jana in practice, Heather, a two-time U.S. Barista Champion, said "I knew she had the potential to challenge me, Jana one amazing barista. While the competitor in me was disappointed in not winning, the coach in me could not have been more proud in celebrating the victory for one of my own."
Ms. Perry’s barista techniques have earned her many awards and honors, and her training methods have been implemented successfully at her retail stores and international competitions. This outcome of this challenge is a testimony not only to Heather’s own skills, but also to her devotion in sharing her expertise to all those who wish to deliver the perfect cup.

The Ultimate Barista Challenge (UBC) is an open battle barista competition. Baristas can compete in any of the three challenges, having only 10 minutes to prepare and serve their own drinks to a panel of professional tasting judges before a live audience. Those who win the qualifying round complete with the ultimate barista in a one-on-one final challenge to be named "The Ultimate Barista."
