coffee from Angel Mamani offers a distinct champurrado (sweet chocolate rice porridge), melon, peach and floral
aroma. The cup translates a bright and sweet fusion of green apples,
cherries, saskatoon berries with a sweet chestnut, almond and dark chocolate nuances. It
also offers a full body with just the right amount of acidity; a great
coffee to drink either hot or iced.
Mamani’s coffee was a National Jury Winner at the 2009 Bolivia Cup of
Excellence and was sent to the International Jury. It failed to make it
into the international winners and related auction. Sometimes a
not-so-great roast can be a factor, or a jury getting calibrated to the
local coffees, and sometimes it is justified. But generally, looking
among some of the National winners of such competitions can yield
coffees of distinction and surprising value; such is the case here.
